Traceability and Documentation
We are part of a larger whole, and therefore we are also proud to take responsibility that makes a difference. For example, we were the first to get our European plastic suppliers to introduce traceability and documentation in their production. This gave our customers in the food industry an advantage, as they had their documentation and traceability in place before it became a requirement for continued exports to key markets.
Food safety
At OTV, we are registered with the Danish Veterinary and Food Administration in the Food Region South and are subject to the rules on food contact materials for some of our plastic materials. All companies that import and sell materials and articles intended for food contact in Denmark must be registered with the Danish Veterinary and Food Administration pursuant to Section 281 of the Danish Food Act, cf. however subsection Section 15.

As a responsible company, we carry out internal control and provide documentation to our customers in the form of Declarations of Compliance, supplemented by migration tests from our suppliers. In this way, we ensure that the part of our engineering plastics intended for contact with food complies with legislation. We import engineering plastics exclusively from the EU and comply with the applicable EU legislation on food contact materials – FKM.
The Declaration of Compliance will state that the material complies with:
- Regulation 1935/2004/EC
- Regulation 10/2011/EC
- Manufacture of the plastic material and items machined from the material is carried out in accordance with 2023/2006/EC (GMP – Good Manufacturing Practice)
- Traceable methodology and internal control are in place as part of compliance with the above regulations as well as 2023/2006/EC
- The material does not contain “Dual Use Additives”
At the customer’s request, traceability from the customer’s finished product back to the manufacture of the plastic semi-finished goods used at OTV’s suppliers can be implemented with identification no./batch no. on orders and invoices for the food contact materials in accordance with 1935/2004/EC and 10/2011/EC.
However, OTV cannot issue general declarations of compliance with 1935/2004, as we also trade in materials that are not intended for contact with food, and as a subcontractor we do not necessarily have knowledge of the product’s intended use. It is therefore necessary that, when placing the order, OTV is informed of how detailed the traceability must be and whether a Declaration of Compliance is required. OTV’s processes regarding food safety, as well as all declarations, are maintained within our ISO 9001:2015. Quality, short lead times and high delivery reliability are key priorities at OTV – including for items that require a Declaration of Compliance.

Why Blue Plastic?
In the food industry, blue plastic can be used to advantage. Blue plastic has the safety advantage that, should small plastic splinters end up in the food, they are highly visible and therefore easier to detect.
