PC

PC – Polycarbonate
PC is an amorphous material used without special modifications. It has good stiffness and high impact strength and is used for cab windows and for anti-theft protection in shops, museums, and similar applications.

As a semi-finished product, PC is best known as sheets with very high impact strength. The sheets are supplied up to and including 15 mm thickness in optical quality with a smooth, transparent surface. These sheets are partially UV-resistant. Above 15 mm thickness, and in tubes and round bars, the material is available as technical PC, which is only slightly transparent. This is not UV-resistant. PC is often used for injection-moulded parts.

Applications
PC is used across a wide temperature range, but continuous use in hot water above 60°C is not recommended, as hydrolysis will occur. Exposure to solvents will trigger stress cracking. PC, which can be cold-bent up to 5 mm, is used where high impact strength is required, e.g., for safety guards and similar applications. PC is suitable for thermoforming and is used, among other things, for enclosures and displays. For general outdoor use, sheets with additional UV protection can be supplied.
