POM
POM – Polyacetal
POM is a rigid, hard and resilient material that is well suited for machining. It produces short chips, and a high surface finish can be achieved. POM is the most universally used material.
Types
POM is available in two types, H and C, with copolymer POM C now being the standard. Despite its hardness, POM has high elasticity and impact strength. For short periods, POM can withstand high temperatures up to 140°C. With prolonged exposure to, or use in, hot water above 65°C, embrittlement and cracking (hydrolysis) may occur. POM is available in various modified grades. POM semi-finished products are manufactured by extrusion and supplied in natural (white) or black, with black being the most UV-stable.
Applications
The food industry uses POM extensively, as the material is easy to clean and is not significantly affected by the cleaning agents normally used.
