PTFE – Polytetrafluoroethylene (Teflon)
PTFE is characterized by its exceptionally high chemical resistance. Although PTFE has very low friction, its wear resistance and mechanical strength are limited. However, these properties can be improved by adding, for example, glass fibers or carbon. For semi-finished products, the most commonly used manufacturing method is compression molding/sintering. In addition to pure PTFE in rods, tubes and sheets in white, it can also be supplied with additives such as glass, graphite, bronze, or similar.

Applications
PTFE is often used where good chemical resistance or high temperature resistance is required. Even prolonged exposure to hot water or sunlight does not impair the material’s properties. PTFE is used especially in the chemical industry and the electronics industry.

Properties
Although PTFE has low friction, it is not recommended to use the material as a wear plate or bearing material. There is too high a risk of cold flow.
