TOLERANCES

We focus entirely on precision plastics as we look to the future, helping our customers make the right design and material choices.

Exactly as Agreed

Plastic machining places high demands. Plastic is affected by many factors, such as temperature and humidity, as well as the condition of the cutting tools and the machines.

Workpieces at OTV are machined and inspected at a temperature of 20–22°C. Subsequent assembly or inspection measurement at our customers’ sites should therefore generally always be carried out at the same temperature to avoid unnecessary influence on the plastic component.

To ensure that OTV meets the requirements for dimensions and tolerances, each cutting tool is measured for wear and tolerances before use.

Tolerances

As standard, we use ISO 2768-1 (medium), unless otherwise specified or agreed.

Surface Roughness

We have listed possible surface roughness values for different plastic types.
However, this is for guidance only, and our technical department should be contacted for further information.

RA 0.4 – 1.0Very fine surface finish that requires a long machining time
Material: PETP and POM
Tool requirements: Diamond-coated tool
RA 1.6 – 3.2Good surface finish achieved by milling and turning
Material: Almost all engineering plastics
Tool requirements: No special requirements
RA 3.2 – …Saw-cut surface
Material: Almost all engineering plastics
Tool requirements: No special requirements
